Among the picturesque hills along the footpaths across the fields stand baroque chapels and wayside shrines. Nearby in the vicinity towers the basilica with the Bernardine monastery, where a miraculous image of the Blessed Virgin Mary is kept Pope John Paul and often prayed in front of this image. The shrine complex called "Polish Jerusalem", apart from the main church with the monastery, also includes 42 churches and chapels. It all started with the foundation of the shrine (a small church of Crucifixion built according to a model brought from Jerusalem) by Mikołaj Zebrzydowski in the year1600. More buildings continued to be added to the Calvary paths complex right up to the 19th century.
Once in Kalwaria, you might also visit WADOWICE, 10 kilometers west. It is a place where Korol Wojtyła, later Pope John Paul II, was born. The house where he lived as a child is now a museum.
You are very welcome !!!
